Reflections — the Newtown massacre- a tragedy way beyond gun laws!

My posts under Reflections so far have been on my memories of the past. But this one relates to an extremely tragic event that had taken place in a little town in Connecticut, USA. I happened to get onto the chilling news through internet as the blood and gore streamed out of the premises where lay 28 lives in the throes of death. The same ( Friday, 15 December, 12 ) evening, I e-mailed my close friend Dr. Nurul Islam, a resident of Connecticut for over forty years ” we are appalled by the news of this totally senseless shooting of school children in Newtown. Is that place near to your home ? Our deepest sympathies to those who suffer from this tragedy, hoping that such atrocities do not darken any more lives. Take care.” Details…

Reflections

One of the most rewarding engagements to me, and perhaps to so many others,is the animated discussions one has with friends. Such no-holds-barred sessions at least in our close and intensely vibrant circle, produce fireworks and have a cleansing effect. That reminds me to put to them my recently -written controversial piece ( in Bangla -titled ‘Humu,Himu ebong Aami’) and have the exorcising ceremony in full earnest. The ghosts and cobwebs a la late celebrated Humayun Ahmed could perchance receive a respite. Let me keep these thoughts for a later rambling. Details…

Reflections

Manik Bhai used to visit us sometimes with his daughters and a son, none of whom even in later years, had any flare for literature or the sense of finer arts. They were near about our age, with the elder girl,Pushkin by name, being really pretty and somewhat dumb, the younger one called Kochi was a wild one and perhaps took special courses in being overtly quarrelsome and rude.

Their brother was a silent type named, I don’t know why, Masum, meaning innocent. I always got ruffled by such and other anomalies and I still do. So I asked Manik Bhai what this pushkin thing all about .Don’t raise the eyebrow, I was around 12 or so, for heaven’s sake! Manik Bhai’s you’ve not still read the world classics, then you would have known Pushkin was one of the greatest writers in Russian and world literature. Naming his first-born with this somewhat pompous, and strange surname, did ,in my view, a lot of damage to the poor girl’s psychology. Details…

Reflections…..

If one tries to recall the past, it becomes a fascinating exercise to know how many good people one has met along the way. Relatives, friends, strangers and so on have enriched our lives in various measures,at different levels and in wide ranges of fields. We did not have any paternal uncle, as my father was the last to be born and his immediate elder brother, whose name I happen to be known by, was almost twenty-five years his senior. But his only son was older than our eldest brother. However, we had quite a few maternal uncles and aunts- a very colourful, noisy and varied lot. Two uncles have had the most abiding impact on my growing -up years. No two persons could be as different as Zahed Khalu and Hassan Khalu were, as were the two khalas they were married for over twenty five years at the time. Details…

In fact from the elementary level we grow up learning that, “life is not a bed of roses .” But is it only me who finds life so easy? Or it’s actually easy? I am referring to the life that is totally wrapped up with the internet! Details…

Obama, the president of “hope and peace” around the world

Md.Zahidul Islam Milton | 7 November 2012 8:57 pm

First of all, I want to thank all the US voters for choosing the real leader of the time around the globe. Needless to say that I did monitor and analyse the US election procedure for a long time being a student of “Political Science as well as Journalism” and accordingly I did forecast last week in the on-line/social media finally that Obama will be re-elected in the presidency no doubt and hope, I’m the first person in the world to felicitated and congratulate Him in advance for his winning. Good luck Obama, the black Diamond and have my salute to bring back hope, peace and political stability around the world in near future irrespective of religion, country, caste or sex.

Super storm Hurricane Sandy might cost Obama- not the Presidency

Md.Zahidul Islam Milton | 1 November 2012 9:31 am

fotoflexer_photo.jpgMd. Zahidul Islam (Milton)- Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Being a student of Politics and Journalism, I’m more curious researching/analysing a lot about the forecast of the forthcoming US election which to be held on 6th November’12. I’ve already written earlier in another article before approaching/hitting the super-storm that Hurricane Sandy may turn into the Political Storm in USA but now my decisive/final prediction is that Hurricane Sandy might cost Obama- not the Presidency at all and the impact of this mega storm makes it positive that the world will observe a presidential election where the champion gets winning a very fewer votes than the losing concern! Reflections

Some time ago I had written a piece on remembering things you value and even those you do not. All such experiences aggregate themselves into your persona, what you are and what makes you tick. My father, despite his multifarious responsibilities, interests and even-filled days, had always had time for us and that was quite an immense call since we were five brothers and three sisters. And each one of us, born over a 20-odd years stretch, had their individual share of his attention and time. Since this write-up is not about my father per se, I cannot but be continually amazed at such a luminous blessing that lit the path of our lives. My father used to describe my immediate elder brother as his ’strength’, but chose to say that I was his ‘joy’. Details…
