‘British Islam’: UK Government Policy to create a new religion

mahbub | 29 June 2009 11:05 am

The British Government has a current policy to manufacture a new religion. They call it ‘British Islam’. Former Communities Secretary Ruth Kelly talked about a ‘British Version of Islam’. A paper by the Department of Communities and Local Government titled “The Role of Muslim IIdentity Politics in Radicalisation” mentions how the government would like to use “British Islam as a response to radical Islam”. In July 2008 the Foreign Office boasted how it was sending a delegation on a ‘tabligh’ trip to Egypt to propagate this ‘British Islam’. Details…

Is this Obama’s ‘respect’ for Muslims?

mahbub | 29 June 2009 11:04 am

In his famous Cairo speech, Barack Obama said he wanted “a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world; one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect.”

Yet, in recent days, news has emerged of new US massacres of civilians. On Tuesday, around 80 people were killed in the south Waziristan region of Pakistan, when a US drone struck mourners attending a funeral. A previous attack in May saw up to 140 civilians killed in Farah province, Afghanistan, in a US airstrike. Details…

Sarkozy labels burqa symbol of enslavement but ignores women’s subjugation in secular liberal France

mahbub | 29 June 2009 11:03 am

In a speech to the French parliament last Monday, President Nicolas Sarkozy made clear his views towards the burqa describing it an unacceptable symbol of women’s enslavement. He said “The burqa is not a religious sign; it is a sign of the subjugation, of the submission of women. I want to say solemnly that it will not be welcome on our territory.”

It is laughable that Mr. Sarkozy talks of enslavement of women while he is married to Carla Bruni, a former nude model – a profession that many women consider as the embodiment of female enslavement to men. Details…

Q&A: North Korea’s Nuclear Tests

mahbub | 25 June 2009 2:39 am

Question:
North Korea announced on 25th May, 2009, that it carried out a successful nuclear test. It had earlier (on 8th May) warned that it was strengthening its nuclear arsenal, and accused the Obama administration of hostile actions against it. It had also refused to resume the six-party negotiations. Then on 27th May, 2009, it declared that North Korea was ‘not committed to the ceasing of hostilities’ signed with the United States. This refusal was in response to South Korea’s participation in the American initiative to prevent nuclear proliferation. [al-Jazeerah: 31.05.09].

What is the reaction of the international community towards these events? Are these leading to an escalation of tensions and war, or is a war ruled out; will negotiations be resumed? Details…

A Letter from Iran

mahbub | 25 June 2009 2:38 am

The Western media machine has gone into 5th gear. We are being told that the world is on the brink of another colour revolution, another dictator will be thrown into the dustbin of history and freedom loving people can expect moral support from the liberal West.

Iran is once again witnessing mass demonstrations and such Ipod loving, rock and roll dancing, Twitter people want to free themselves from the conservative shackles of their forefathers who continue to rule the country. This was the narrative I was sold growing up in the UK about the country my parents were from. Details…
