The Chance to make a New history

Asiful Basar | 27 December 2008 5:19 pm

The next election is the most crucial election in the history of Bangladesh. After practicing 15 years of ‘bloody’ and ‘fake’ democracy, the nation is hoping to establish a more sustainable and reliable democracy in the country, which will ensure our prosperity and success. But against this inspiration, we are still seeing some corrupted, criminals politicians trying to manipulate our politics once again and hoping that their rule will come again. In this situation, the most promising thing is our fresh youth voters, who are dominating 31% of our total voting population and have the ability to change the country’s political scenario. But for them, the most challenging thing is ‘how to pick an honest, bold, patriotic and competent candidate among some corrupted criminals. For their help, I have created a ‘measurement scale’ by which we can measure the competency of a candidate.

Here I am showing my own ‘basic judgment’ for finding a suitable candidate from thousands of the beasts. Your comments or editing will be appreciated.

The total points for this measurement scale are 90. In my judgment, perfect candidates must have to achieve 75 points to get my vote. Otherwise, if I don’t find anyone with this mark, then I will go for ‘Na Vote’.

1) First I will focus on candidate’s Education. Here I will mark him/her in 4 scales.
a. Post-graduate - 15 points
b. Intermediate to graduate - 10 points
c. Below Intermediate to class 8- 5 points
d. Below class 8- o points

2) Then Candidate’s occupation, here 4 scales too.
a. Professional Politician (no other profession)- 15 points
b. Professional (especially in Law, Education, Agriculture, or Service sectors)- 10 points
c. Business or other occupations or retired from job- 5 points
d. No specific occupation or previously used politics as a source for wealth- 0 points.

3) Candidate’s Political career, 4 scales too.
a) 10 years or more political career - 15 points
b) 5 to 9 years political career - 10 points
c) 2 to 4 years political career - 5 points
d) below 2 years - 0 points

4) Candidate’s age, 4 scales too.
a) 35 to 50 -15 points
b) 51 to 60 - 10 points
c) 30 to 34 or 61 to 65- 5 points
d) 65 or more - o points

5) Candidates’ residency. 3 Scales.
a) Live in his/her own constitutional area- 15 points
b) Live outside from his/her constitutional area- 5 points
c) Have no previous attachment to his/ her constitutional area- 0 points.

6) Candidate’s character/ ideologies/ political views, 3 scales. Here I will deduct candidate’s points if he/she fells into the 3rd category.
a) Moderate, liberal, Patriotic, freedom fighter, secularist, centered- 15 points
b) Right or left wings- 5 points
c) Have an allegation of corruption, war criminality, bank loan defaulting, black money or any kind of criminal activities - (minus)- 5 points.

That’s all.

Thanks,

Asif

Asiful Bashar,
Now the Elections are over and most papers and websites have posted the qualification and profession of the candidates. Please check and let us have your assessment on these candidates by assigning the points that you refer to above.

Rony Asif,
We are still not that matured in the political arena– here keeping power is the main aim;lets hope that she makes a good choice of personnels for her cabinet and more importantly that she maintains her interest for the welfare of the Citizen and the also of the Country too. She would be under pressure to rafify all the actions of the interim CTG Govt and deciding a good foreign policy beyond just friendship to all and malice to none.

A month and a few more days has passed since Election were completed even the Upazillas too. There is no write-ups from any journalists/columnists about the fate of the smaller parties that lost completely or may have just one/two seats– what would be their real status- will they still continue as EC listed parties and be with the Alliance???
The so called third-force parties got blown off - now you see them now you dont- is the magical words used and the force has disappeared that fast. Anyway it was quite an adventurous step and then public was well entertained by their stunts- most importantly their discussions atleast enabled the Citizens to know the wolves in the society– thats how the Game of Power is played; dealing and wheeling.
But what actually will hapen to these adventurous parties like the Prgessive Party- Bikalpa Dhara,Kolyan Party,Forward Party etc.?? Will there be any policies to reduce the number of listed Political Parties based on theirn poor performance in the Elections? Do these Political Parties cause financial drainage dfrom the Govet Fund? Just Curios. Would anybosy care to enlighten us????
