Govt wants to eliminate opposition: BNP
Wed, Jun 13th, 2012 4:13 pm BdST

Dhaka, Jun 13 (bdnews24.com) – A senior BNP leader on Wednesday alleged that the government was trying to wipe out the opposition through 'abduction, repression and arrests'.

"The government cannot tolerate the opposition. They [government] have become impatient. The government is trying to annihilate the opposition through abductions, repressions and arrests," party's Standing Committee member Mahbubur Rahman said.

He urged the people to protest the 'conspiracy' of the government.

Mahbub was speaking at a human-chain programme in front of the National Press Club in the capital held demanding release of the jailed BNP leaders including Acting Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

He criticised the government for imprisoning the senior opposition leaders. "The government's fascist character has shown its true colour thorough this act," Mahbub, the former Army chief, added.

Addressing the party leaders and activists, he said, "This is not the time to sit silently. This is the time to go to people to unite them."
