Dhaka, Jun 16 (bdnews24.com) – Prime Minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina warned grassroots leaders on Saturday to refrain from doing anything that might 'create rift in people's confidence'.

Hasina's words of caution came at a meeting with grassroots leaders of Thakurgaon at Ganabhaban, her official residence.

She also urged them to unite ahead of the upcoming national polls.

"[We] must work on so that the confidence people have in Awami League continues to remain. There should be no such action as to dash their hopes," Hasina said.

Emphasising on strengthening the organisation ahead of the upcoming polls, the Awami League chief said, "[We] have to remain united and make the organisation strong from the grassroots level."

Terming the ruling party as an 'old organisation' of the Indian sub-continent, Hasina said it had faced many blows in the past but none could inflict any lasting damage as the party's organisational structure was very strong.

"The leadership may take incorrect decisions at times but the grassroots never commit mistakes," she said.

"That's why I am here today," the Prime Minister said suggesting that it was because of the grassroots that she has been able to assume the office.

She emphasised on holding party's meetings at grassroots level to strengthen the party and make it more organised.

The ruling party chief reminded that they would have to go to the people soon as the next national election was closing in.

Hasina also assured them of immediate steps in case of organisational problems at the grassroots level.
