Chittagong, Jun 30 (bdnews24.com) — The BNP chief on Saturday gave financial assistance to hillslide victims' families in Chittagong.

Khaleda Zia handed over cheques of Tk 25,000 to each of the 18 families of people who died in a hillslide in the Akbar Shah Majar area due to heavy rains last week.

Seven people were killed in a landslide last Tuesday. Apart from them, mudslides killed 17 others in five other places.

The BNP chief reached Chittagong around 2:45pm on Saturday when the party's senior leaders were at hand to greet her.

The two-time former pirme minister's press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan said Khaleda would distribute relief goods among the distressed at Motijharna and Shaheed Zia Smriti Complex in Laalkhan Bazar.

The BNP chief started for Chittagong around 8:30am. She halted at the Feni Circuit House for around half an hour.

The opposition chief was greeted by supporters at various points on both sides of the road from Feni to Chittagong.

The press secretary said the BNP chief will distribute relief among the flood-affected people at Parshuram, Fulgazi and Chhagolnaiya in Feni on Sunday after an overnight halt at the Chittagong Circuit House.

Khaleda will start for Dhaka on Sunday night, Khan said.
