Waqar won't be Australia bowling coach

Karachi, Jul 25 (bdnews24.com) - Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis has been ruled out of the contention for the position of Australia's bowling coach, reports Cricket365.

The Aussies are searching for a replacement for Craig McDermott, who vacated the post earlier this year.

Allister de Winter was appointed on a temporary basis for the recent tour of England, and remains in the running for the full-time job after Cricket Australia decided against hiring Younis.

"I was interested but it didn't work out between me and Cricket Australia," Younis told ESPNcricinfo.

"It didn't really work out. They did interview me. I guess what I'm offering and what they're looking at are two different things.

"I don't know, I haven't really asked them the details but that's how it stands at the moment. It has just been in the last couple of days."

McDermott's most prominent pupil during his one-year tenure, Test seamer James Pattinson recently implored Cricket Australia to employ a bowling coach with previous Test match experience.

Ex-Test seamers Andy Bichel and Damien Fleming have already withdrawn their candidacy. The 44-year-old de Winter, who ended his playing days in 1993, only has 21 first-class matches to his name.
