Jamalpur, Aug 4 (bdnews24.com) – Awami League lawmaker from Jamalpur-4 constituency Dr Murad Hasan has allegedly severely beaten up a senior lawyer and leader of the local unit of the ruling party.

The victim was identified as Advocate Badrudozza Bahadur, Vice-President of Jamalpur District Awami Lawyers Council. He was also allegedly confined at Sarishabari dak-bungalow for two hours on Saturday noon.

He was set free after the local leaders – upazila Chairman Abdul Malek and Awami League leader Abul Hossain – and Officer-in-Charge of the local police station A K M Kamrul Ahsan intervened.

The lawmaker later begged apology to him in presence of party men and officials of the administration and sent him to the hospital for treatment.

Bahadur told reporters at the Sarishabari Upazila Health Complex that he went to the lawmaker at noon with an appeal seeking immediate repair of a rundown road (Harkhali Bazaar to Dolvitibari) of the upazila.

As he strongly demanded repairs of the road, the MP got angry and beat up the lawyer indiscriminately in presence of other people following an altercation between the duo.

Bahadur, the former Social Welfare Affairs Secretary of the Sarishabari upazila unit of Awami League, claimed that he received serious injuries in the jaw and chest. Four of his teeth also got hit. He fell on the floor at one stage of beating, he claimed.

Bahadur said that he would inform about the incident to Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, also the Prime Minister.

Murad could not be contacted for his comment on the matter despite several calls on his cell phone.
